HENDREN COMMITTEE POSTPONES DECISION ON DETACHMENT

Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

Here’s the latest in the possibility of the Town of Hendren seceding from the Greenwood school district. The Concerned Citizens of Hendren committee – which is spearheading the effort - met last night, but they did not decide if they would continue in the effort, or postpone it.

Committee member Dan Coughlin told WCCN the committee will likely meet again next week.

On Monday night, an informational meeting on the possible detachment was held at the Willard Athletic Club. Greenwood Superintendent Dr. John Eitenmiller urged the group to wait a year before attempting the detachment. He said they should give the school board a chance to look at their options – especially consolidation. Coughlin said Eitenmiller’s comments resonated with some members of the committee.
