25 YEARS AT CITY HALL

25 years is a long time to do anything. It takes an extra special kind of person to balance books day after day for that long.

Rex Roehl, Neillsville’s Clerk/Treasurer, is celebrating his 25th anniversary in the post. He was hired by the city back on May 1, 1984.

He was Neillsville’s first non-elected Clerk, and he’s seen the office through a lot of changes.

"Well, we did all the bookwork by hand, now we're computerized." Roehl notes, "The Elections went from being all done by hand to machines."

Our station has received plenty of information from Roehl over the years. He’s always been a professional, no-nonsense kind of guy; just what you want in a Clerk/Treasurer.

"We're in charge of the minutes for all the meetings for the Council, we take care of all the water and sewer billing, licensing, whether it be dogs or liquor. The Elections are bigger now than every because of all the requirements at the Federal and State levels," Roehl says.

As Roehl says, the state and federal government “can’t leave well enough alone.”

Roehl has served under three mayors in the 25 years: Bob Lulloff, Bill Meier and Diane Murphy.

If you’re wondering, Rex has no retirement plans.
