CLARK CO. WANTS $1.5-MILLION IN 'STIMULUS'

The Clark County Public Property Committee will review a stimulus proposal sent to state and federal legislators last month.

In a memo sent to Rep. Ron Kind and others, County Board Chairman Wayne Hendrickson requests $1.5 million of stimulus money for three major projects.

The biggest chunk, $824,000 would fund efficiency updates at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen. The county hopes federal money can be used to replace windows, the roof and heating system.

Another $790,000, would cover updates to the Courthouse heating, cooling and hot water systems. The memo claims the updates could save the county $50,000 per year.

The remaining $25,000 would cover upgrades at the Clark County Adult Development Services facility in Greenwood.

The memo claims the purchases could stimulate the economy by providing “local jobs,” though, it seems clear these projects would have to go out to bids, making it difficult to assure local contractors get the jobs.

The committee meets Monday at 9 a.m.
