KIND LEERY OF SENATE'S STIMULUS PLAN

Now that Democrats control the Senate and the House, it sounds like there could be some in-fighting over the massive stimulus bill.

The House passed their version of the $820-billion plan, which includes over $500-billion in new spending, and over $200-billion in tax cuts.

Earlier this week, Rep. Ron Kind (D-La Crosse) said he was leery of Senate Democrats’ ideas…

"The Senate's going to have an amendment that's going to include Alternative Minimum Tax Relief. To do that, it costs $70-billion," Kind says, "We don't feel we should do that because it's not an emergency; everyone knew this was coming up."

Taking the easy road now will leave major problems for future lawmakers, Kind says.

"That means they don't have to pay for it. Unfortunately, that's the easiest thing you can do under these circumstances: just load up a bill of this nature with all kinds of things you want to do, but don't want to pay for at the same time," Kind says."

Kind says Congress should get back to “pay-as-you-go” budgeting.
