NEILLSVILLE CITY COUNCIL MEETS

Neillsville City streets will get a much-needed cash infusion this year.

At a meeting Tuesday, the Neillsville City Council appropriated a $100,000 loan payment from Concern II to the street repair budget.

The Council also elected to move forward on a process that could eventually lead to the razing of a residence. The owners of the home at 10 Court Street have denied access to city inspectors, but an examination of the exterior of the building reveals some potential structural deficiencies.

City Attorney Bonnie Wacsmuth was authorized to attempt to get a special assessment warrant that would allow inspectors to go inside the building.

Also last night, the council approved the appointment of Scott Moseley to the City’s Planning Commission. He will serve temporarily as Commission member Dave Barth is deployed to Iraq.

HUNTERS BAGGING MORE DEER IN TOWN

Hunters in Neillsville’s city limits have been doing a better job controlling the deer population, according to Police Chief Brad Lindner.

Lindner told the City Council there were around 30 deer harvested with nuisance tags or archery permits in 2008; the previous high was around 15.

The city has already been approved for more nuisance tags for 2009, he stated.

It was noted there are currently no properties allowing hunting on the city’s west side.
