MIXED OPINIONS ON GRANTON'S FUTURE
Tuesday, January 6th, 2009 -- 9:19 am Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director
130 Granton School District residents have spoken, and they have mixed feelings about the future of the district.
The school board sent a survey to between 700 and 800 district addresses in November.
Granton, along with virtually all other districts in the area, is facing a budget pinch, and the survey offered four choices to address the problem: consolidation, more sharing, referendum or dissolution.
- Consolidation proved the most popular option with 38% of respondents listing it as their preferred method of dealing with the district’s future. Of those residents, 56% want the district to merge with Loyal; 33% preferred Neillsville.
- 23% thought the district should try another revenue cap exemption referendum.
- 23% thought the district should look for more ways to share with other districts.
- 16-percent thought dissolution was the best option.
The board will discuss the results next week.
