2ND DEER HAD CWD AT JUNCTION CITY FARM

Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

A second deer from a Portage County herd euthanized last month tested positive for chronic wasting disease.

The initial positive test in a 7-year-old doe shot in September was found in routine testing and caused the state to work out an agreement to destroy more than 60 deer remaining at the Alligator Creek Whitetails LLC near Junction City.

The state Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection said Wednesday that 1 of those deer, a 3-year-old doe, also tested positive for the fatal brain disease.

The deer had been born on the property and had no ties to any other deer farm.
