PACKERS FANS MOURN LOSS OF REGGIE WHITE

Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

Reggie White was a year away from being voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame after helping the Packers return to the great glory of its past.

He died of an apparent heart attack on Sunday at the age of 43.

White joined the Packers in 1993, as the most heralded free agent in NFL history. Within the next four years, the Packers were Super Bowl champions. White ended up playing six seasons with the Packers and held the all-time NFL record for sacks when he retired as a member of the Carolina Panthers after the 2000 season. His sack record was broken last year by Washington's Bruce Smith. But White played 15 years in the NFL and will go down as the most dominant defensive end in the game. He retired with 198 sacks, two behind Smith. Of those 198 sacks,
76 1/2 of them came in six seasons with the Packers.

Team President Bob Harlan said White, along with Ron Wolf, Mike Holmgren and Brett Favre, are all equally responsible for their role in saving the Packers and making them what they are today.
