SEX OFFENDER WEBSITE HAS NEW FEATURE

A new feature on the state's Sex Offender Registry website will help residents see how close they are to any offenders.
Department of Corrections Sex Offender Programs Director Melissa Roberts says a new mapping feature is being added to the online registry. It allows users to plug in an address and then see where any sex offenders are living within a five mile radius of that location.
Roberts says they're also expanding an e-mail notification list, which notifies residents when a sex offender moves in nearby.
Both features are being made available through a partnership with the "Family Watchdog" group. The organization already offered the tools on its own website. However, Roberts says the partnership will give them immediate access to any new information about the locations of sex offenders.
