EXTENSION HOSTING COURSE FOR BEGINNING FARMERS

A course for beginning farmers is coming to Clark County for the first time.
Area residents can attend the Wisconsin School for Beginning Dairy and Livestock Farmers in Thorp beginning Thursday, November 13, at the Thorp Library.

The 15-week class will include satellite presentations, as well as on site instruction.

"It has been offered in the past (in Central Wisconsin), but this is the first time we've had it in Clark County," says Maria Bendixen of the Clark County UW-Extension office.

While dairy start-ups have been notoriously few and far between in recent years, people are getting interested again.

"I think there's always been some interest in getting started, but with the high commodity prices we had last year, and some of the high milk prices, people are going, 'you know, maybe this is something I can make a go at'," she says.

Some people have signed up for the course, but will likely only take a few of the classes.

For more information, you can call the Clark County UW-Extension Office at 743-5121.
