715 AREA CODE ALMOST OUT OF NUMBERS

 The Wisconsin Public Service Commission met Thursday to discuss what to do with two telephone area codes that are running out of numbers.
PSC spokesman Tim Le Monds says the 715 area code is projected to be out of numbers by mid-2010 and the 920 area code will run out by mid-2011.
He says one option is splitting the area codes and creating new ones. Another option is to create new area codes within the existing territories. But that would require dialing an area code for all local calls.
The 715 area code covers central and northern Wisconsin including Eau Claire, Wausau and Marinette. The 920 area code runs from Fort Atkinson to Washington Island in eastern Wisconsin.
