LOOKING FOR EFFICIENCY

The Neillsville School Board is moving ahead with efforts to make their buildings more efficient.

The board approved several projects Monday night.

"We're looking at redoing the light fixtures in some of our largest areas, the elementary school gym, the middle school gym and the auditorium, and also doing some thing with our ventilation system in there that will provide us with significant savings," explains superintendent John Gaier.

For instance, the school’s heating system constantly draws and heats cold air, but it doesn’t have to.

"We need to upgrade so, if there is no one in those facilities at that time, we stop the call for outside air," he says.

The district is taking advantage of rebates from the state’s Focus on Energy program. The investments wouldn’t be possible if the revenue cap exemption referendum wasn’t approved last month, Gaier notes.

The projects still must go out to bids, so the total price tag isn’t known.
