DEATH OF MARSHFIELD TEACHER STILL A MYSTERY
Monday, October 27th, 2008 -- 8:16 am
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

Investigators are still looking into the bizarre circumstances that surround the death of a popular Marshfield teacher.

37-year-old Troy Schmitt died when his minivan was struck by a train near Auburndale last week.

The vehicle was parked on the tracks, facing the train, 20-feet off the roadway. The lights were turned off and the conductor says Schmitt was slumped over the steering wheel at the time of impact.

An autopsy determined he was still alive at the time of the impact.

Sgt. Wayne Schultz of the Wood County Sheriff’s Department says nothing has been ruled out.

Anyone with information about Schmitt’s whereabouts the night of his death is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Department at 715-421-8700.
