NEILLSVILLE'S BUDGET COMPLETE
Friday, October 17th, 2008 -- 12:13 pm Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director
The City of Neillsville’s 2009 budget is complete, though it still must be approved.
The overall budget is $3.1-million, a 1.5% increase from the current year. The increase is almost entirely the result of fuel and utility expenses.
City property taxpayers will cover $1-million. The levy, minus Tax Increment District payments, was increased 2%, the maximum allowed under state-imposed levy limits.
Council pay increases included
The Finance Committee is recommending raises for elected officials.
Under the plan, who ever is elected Mayor in 2010 will receive a 20% salary increase from $4,800 to $6,000.
Council salaries will increase 33% from $1,500 to $2,000 when their new terms begin.
Both the Mayor and Council will have their per diem payments increased from $25 to $35.
State law prohibits elected officials from receiving raises during their terms.
The budget hearing will be November 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Room.
