TIF DISTRICT APPROVED FOR GRANTON
Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 -- 12:09 pm
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

The Village of Granton is looking to spur development with the implementation of a TIF district.

Tax Incremental Financing districts allow municipalities to remove contiguous parcels of land from the property tax rolls. That money is, instead, earmarked for the development of roads, water lines and other infrastructure.

Village Clerk Jeanette Steiner says the community is working with MSA Professional Services in Marshfield. The TIF was approved at the Village Board’s August meeting, but there are still some steps that must be completed.

In essence, the TIF will take the designated parcels off the local property tax rolls for 20 years.

Steiner says Granton has never implemented a TIF.
