The 58th Annual Granton Fall Fest is coming up this weekend.

Marge Garbisch of Granton will be this year’s honored citizen. She’s lived in the Granton area for most of the past 60 years and can only remember missing the Festival a few times.

“I moved to Granton in ’48,” she recalls, “It was a great place to raise the family. I couldn’t leave. I didn’t go very far, but when my significant other was gone, I had to move back to Granton where I knew people would take care of me.”

She served on the Granton School Board for nearly 20 years.

While other districts were struggling to pass referendums, she remembers Granton citizens easily approved two separate big-scale building projects, including a new fieldhouse and swimming pool.

“That’s the point. In 1974 it was our grandparents that gave us that pool. They figured the youngsters in the Granton area were as important as any place they knew of,” she remembers, “The saw to it that things were done the way they thought they should be.”

She’s a member of a Rotary chapter known far and wide as being one of the most active, despite the community’s small size.

“The reason you get things done in a small community like Granton is because teamwork is what does it.”

Garbisch will get to lead the Fall Fest parade on Sunday.

Betty Tasse is the honored grandparent.
