A 49-year-old town of Wausau man is dead after he was gored and trampled by a bull on his farm.

Police are not yet identifying the man, who died Sunday night, because they still are trying to notify members of his family.

Police were called to the scene at 6:11 p.m. by the man's wife after she went to look for him and found the bull standing over her husband inside the pen, according to Lt. Dale Wisnewski of the Marathon County Sheriff's Department.

When police and medical crews arrived, the bull would not allow them to get near the man, so police shot and killed the bull.

The man was not breathing, and was pronounced dead.
