CASE AGAINST WESTON COUPLE MOVES FORWARD

A judge has rejected a motion to dismiss reckless homicide charges against parents who prayed instead of seeking medical help as their daughter died of diabetes.

Marathon County Circuit Judge Vincent Howard says prosecutors presented enough evidence against Dale and Leilani Neumann in the criminal complaint to justify the charges.

The couple's 11-year-old daughter, Madeline, died at the family's rural Weston home on Easter Sunday of undiagnosed diabetes.

The couple's attorneys had asked Howard to dismiss the charges, saying the parents' actions - praying, providing food and giving CPR - did not cause their daughter's death.

But prosecutors say the parents were unreasonable in refusing to get medical care and that resulted in the girl's death.
