SALES TAX ISSUE TO BE DISCUSSED

Supporters and opponents of a half-percent sales tax for Clark County should mark next Tuesday on their calendar.
The Finance Committee will meet 9 a.m that morning. Item 7 on the agenda is (quote) "Review County Sales Tax Information".
As we've reported, Clark County's '09 budget looks bleak. Early projections put the deficit at around $1.5-million. New Finance Committee chairman Charles Harwick of the Hatfield-area has already said he supports the half-percent tax.
Virtually every other county in the state has already implemented the tax, but in 2005, nearly two of every three Clark County voters said they didn't want the sales tax.
State statistics project Clark County could raise nearly $1.5-million through the extra tax.
