MANDATORY CHANGES MAKE SCHOOLS HEALTHIER
Monday, March 21st, 2005 -- 2:17 pm
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

Some healthy changes could be on the horizon for many Wisconsin schools. A federal mandate requires that schools participating in the national lunch program develop a wellness policy by next year. For example, the Lac du Flambeau (lahk-doo-FLAM'-boh) School District has banned soda. In Appleton, you won't find candy in school vending machines. The Marshfield School District requires that any food sold before or during school contain no more than seven grams of fat per serving. State Department of Public Instruction nutritionist Julie Allington says some major changes are in store for schools across the state.
