A Wood County man has been rewarded for his heroism in Iraq. 47-year-old Dr. John Williams earned a Bronze Star while working as a public health officer for the 3rd and 4th Civil Affairs Group in the Al Anbar province in the city of Ramadi.

This week, he was back to work at Aspirus Occupational Health in Wisconsin Rapids. Williams had been in the Naval Reserves for 16 years when he was called up in January 2004. After his convoy was attacked by insurgents last March, he helped save 3 injured marines.
