This week, we told you a Fairchild woman planned to donate her winnings from a national essay contest to the Highground Veterans Memorial Park near Neillsville.

It turns out those winnings will be even more substantial than originally thought.

Celeste Kaufman won the 'Holiday Miracle Essay Contest' sponsored by Land O' Frost lunchmeats.

Her 250-word essay explained how her son Charles' unfortunate fall from a treestand turned into a golden opportunity for her family to spend one more Christmas together before Charles was killed in Baghdad, Iraq.

She planned to donate her $5,000 prize to the Highground.

Kaufman tells Central Wisconsin Broadcasting news that she's heard back from company officials who were so moved by the story, they've decided to double the check to $10,000.

Kaufman is a member of the design committee developing a Persian Gulf Tribute that will honor the veterans of Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and the war in Afghanistan. We'll have more on this story next week.
