TOWN OF SEIF RESIDENT WANTS TO DETACH FROM GREENWOOD SCHOOL DISTRICT
Monday, February 25th, 2008 -- 11:23 am
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

A Town of Seif resident wants to break away from the Greenwood School District and attach to the Neillsville School District.

The Town of Seif is located northwest of Neillsville and is mostly covered by County Forest. Most of the Town is already in the Neillsville school district, but a small portion is in Greenwood district.

Robert and Shirley Sibiliski own a parcel of land there. They've petitioned to detach from Greenwood and attach to Neillsville; likely because of Neillsville's considerably lower tax rate.

Neillsville's tax rate is $7.80 per thousand dollars of property; Greenwood's tax rate is around $11.40 per thousand.

According to Neillsville administrator John Gaier, Greenwood's school board has already denied the request. Neillsville will hold a special meeting on the request on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.

You may remember the entire Town of Seif petitioned to break away from the Greenwood School District last year. Neillsville approved the request; Greenwood denied it. The Department of Public Instruction turned back the appeal.
