SENATE DEM TALKS ABOUT HEALTH CARE PROPOSAL

A lot of people complain about the price of health care, but fewer have actually attempted to solve the problem.

Like the plan or not, Wisconsin Senate Democrats have introduced a plan that would provide universal coverage. Sen. Kathleen Vinehout (D-Alma) will hold a Town Hall Meeting on the proposed Healthy Wisconsin plan Thursday night in Neillsville.

"What Health Wisconsin does is take apart the system and look at what's causing rising health care costs and address each one of those problems," Vinehout says. "It's what we call 'comprehensive reform'."

Admittedly, a controversial provision of the plan would require employers to pay into the system, even if they currently don't provide health care.

"One of the things we've been working on in the senate, after we heard the initial criticism, was to try to make the system work better for small business," Vinehout notes.

Plus, proponents say lower property taxes will be a nice side-effect as school districts and other municipalities move from their costlier plans to Healthy Wisconsin.

The town hall meeting will be Thursday night at 6 p.m. in the middle school pit. You can also catch Kathleen on In Depth Thursday morning at 9 a.m. on Memories 1370 AM.
