BIG BROTHER TO LIVE ON STOP SIGNS?

State lawmakers are pondering a bill that would let Wisconsin municipalities use cameras to crack down on the thousands of roadway renegades who plow through intersections. Violators would get tickets mailed to their door.
The bill's supporters say the measure would send a signal to lead-foots to slow down.
No organization has officially registered with the state Ethics Board to lobby against the bill.
But the state Department of Transportation legislative liaison Mitchell Warren says the agency opposes the measure. The DOT believes the cameras could improve safety, but would drive up the agency's expenses.
Warren says the agency electronically deducts merit points for citations. But the bill doesn't allow such deductions for camera citations, forcing DOT workers to block the deductions by hand.
