From Neillsville Rec Department:

The Neillsville 6th grade girls basketball team captured the championship in the Great Northwest League Championship tournament held in Eau Claire this weekend.

The League Championship Tournament is an invitational event, which consisted of the top 32 teams out of the 148 squads who make up the league.

The Warriors opened "pool" play on Saturday by defeating the Eau Claire Volunteer Blue 32-21. They followed that victory by dumping Chisago Lakes of Minnesota and St. Joseph of Rice Lake behind strong games by Sierra Bethea and Sami Larrabee.

They then moved to the Championship Bracket of 16 teams.

They defeated La Crosse Logan 31-10 behind Molly Attoe's 17 rebounds.

Jenny Lindner knocked down 7 of 9 freethrows, as the Warriors knocked off Superior 31-26.

The girls knocked off the Chippewa Falls Cardinals 33-29 in overtime, thanks to clutch freethrows from Taylor Gleisner, Attoe, Kaitlyn Crothers and Lindner.

The Championship game saw the Warrior girls fall behind 16-2 in the early going. But the team battled back to force overtime and eventually won on some last second freethrows from Jenny Lindner.

The team, coached by Judy Lindner and Missy Stockheimer, is now 17-0.
