LOYAL SCHOOL BOARD TO TAKE COMMITTEE APPROACH TO CHARTING FUTURE

With consolidation off the table for awhile, the Loyal school board will form a committee to decide what should happen next.

With the district projected to run about $300,000 in the red next year, and no major changes to the school funding formula on the horizon, Superintendent Graeme Williams says the board has few options.

The could go to voters with a revenue cap exemption referendum, make cuts or a combination of both.

Next week, the board will hold an organizational meeting for a new exploratory committee that could be tasked with making a recommendation. Williams says it will consist of board members, staff, faculty, parents and possibly some students.

Personally, he's not sure there will be enough time to to get a referendum to voters in spring, but it is possible, as is a fall referendum.

On November 6, voters in both the Loyal and Greenwood school districts turned back a consolidation referendum.
