AREA SCHOOL BEAT THE ODDS

A number of area school will be recognized this week for "beating the odds."
163 schools from 97 districts have been labeled "Schools of Recognition." These schools are among the highest poverty schools in the state, but student achievement on statewide reading and mathematics assessments exceeds the state average and also beats the average for schools with similar poverty rates.
These schools in our area earned the distinction:
Alma Center Lincoln Elementary Lincoln Junior High
Colby Colby Middle
Granton Area Granton High *
Greenwood Greenwood High **
Loyal Loyal Elementary * Loyal High Loyal Junior High **
Owen-Withee Owen-Withee Elementary ** Owen-Withee Junior High ***
Stanley-Boyd Area Stanley-Boyd High Stanley-Boyd Middle **
Thorp Thorp Elementary *** Thorp High *
Each school will receive a plaque and a $1,500 check for use by the school for any school-related activity.
