SPCENCER MAN COMPETENT TO STAND TRIAL
Thursday, September 21st, 2006 -- 2:33 pm
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

A Spencer man accused of killing his wife by shoving a ceramic plate down her throat has been found competent for trial.

In April, a judge determined Patrick Zurkowski was not competent to stand trial as a psychologist testified he refused to eat or take his medicine and might suffer from paranoid schizophrenia.

Now, the judge believes Zurkowski has been treated.

June Zurkowski was found dead in the couple’s Spencer home back in March. Patrick Zurkowski is charged with first-degree intentional homicide and resisting arrest.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 6th.
