SEVERE STORMS MOVE THROUGH AREA
Thursday, August 24th, 2006 -- 10:20 am
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

The skies were very active Wednesday with severe weather blanketing much of our listening area – however, initial reports seem to indicate Clark County avoided serious damage.

Dorothy Sloth, who is filling in for Clark County Emergency Management Director Jennifer Lord-Kouraichi, who is on leave, tells Central Wisconsin Broadcasting news there were few or no reports of damage due to last night’s storms.

She says the tornado warning issued for southern Clark County was the result of spotters noting “circulation” in some clouds, but no funnel cloud touched down in the county.

The National Weather Service in La Crosse reports our listening area received some impressive hail and rainfall, though. In the local area, there were numerous reports of three-quarter-inch hail; the biggest hail was reported farther south in Jackson and Monroe where it was measured as large as two-and-a-half-inches.

The NWS tells us their rain gauge in Neillsville recorded over 3.6-inches.

We might not be out of the woods yet. There is a moderate risk of more severe weather for Thbursday afternoon.
