DAIRY ACADEMY MIGHT COME TO MARATHON CO.

A dairy academy that might offer classes from Northcentral Technical College, the University of Wisconsin-Marathon County, UW-River Falls and UW-Madison is moving forward.

If ultimately approved by the Marathon County Board, the academy would be modeled after the Northeast Iowa Community College’s dairy science program. That county’s finance committee this week recommended releasing $82,000 set aside to explore the Dairyland State Academy.

The program would be based on Northeast Iowa Community College's dairy science program at its dairy education and applied research center in Calmar, Iowa.

The two-year program also would enable students to transfer credits and pursue four-year degrees.

If the County Board approves the release of funds, it will allow the academy to set up a governing board, incorporate and seek nonprofit status. It would also enable it to raise money and develop a strategic plan and curriculum.
