JENSEN CASE BACK ON HOLD
Thursday, August 17th, 2006 -- 8:14 am
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

We’ve been describing the Wayne Jensen saga as a “twisty turny” case, but perhaps it is better described as a case with plenty of starts and stops.

The case is stopped again as Jensen has fired his public defender.

We don’t have the hour it would take to recount all the stuff in between, but it’s important to remember Jensen was charged and convicted in the July 2003 pipe bombing of a moving vehicle that sent two area residents to the hospital.

He struck a deal with prosecutors that had him testifying against his wife, Cynthia, but later recanted his testimony.

Since last December, Zwieg has been trying to get a judge to rescind and vacate the deal so he could reinstate attempted homicide charges against the Neillsville man, who’s now served most of his three-year prison term.

The case was recently delayed when Clark County Circuit Court Judge Jon Counsell recused himself after Jensen allegedly made threats against him from prison.

Wood County Judge James Mason was named to the case and attorney Peter Thompson was named to replace Jensen's attorney Michael Mendelman, who lost his law license.

Last week, Thompson advised the court Jensen had fired him and had approached the Public Defenders’ office searching for a replacement.
