ELECTRIC POWER EMERGENCY DECLARED
Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006 -- 1:14 pm
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

A small fire at a power plant in Weston is causing some big headaches today (Wednesday).

An electric power emergency has been declared for Central Wisconsin and officials warn power outages are possible, unless people cut back on their usage, according to a release from the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

A fire broke out at the Weston Power Plant at around 9:15 a.m. this morning taking off line multiple generators. There is the risk of an additional generator going off line soon, resulting in voltage problems or possible loss of electric power.

Marshfield residents are being urged to turn off air conditioning, cut back on lighting and reduce other loads that are not absolutely necessary, MACCI says.

The situation is not expected to improve until tonight at the earliest.
