A Neillsville man was recently elected chair of the Chippewa Valley Technical College Board.

Walter Wetzel has served 21 years as a member of the CVTC board, has served two previous terms as chair and seven terms as vice chair.

CVTC president Bill Ihlenfeldt calls Wetzel’s leadership style “more laid back” than other board members, but says he has is “astute in his knowledge of government and how government works”.

“I know there have been many situations that we’ve been in as a college where there’s been two sides to a story – Walter is very astute at bringing the parties to the table and getting the parties to a common consensus,” Ihlenfeldt says.

As a member of the Neillsville School Board, Weltzel fills the board’s requirement for elected official, and Ihlendfeldt says he makes sure Clark County isn’t forgotten.

“There is no question that Walter is a fan of Neillsville,” Ihlenfeldt laughs. “He never lets the rest of the board members or administration forget that Neillsville and Clark County are an extremely important part of what we do.”

“He’s your greatest advocate.”

The CVTC board meets twice monthly and sets policy and direction for the College, which serves an 11-county region.
