SUICIDE AT JACKSON CO. JAIL

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an apparent suicide that took place in their county jail early Saturday morning.
Around midnight, a correctional officer at the jail discovered the lifeless body of 29-year-old Victor Romo Arenas, formerly of Alma Center, hanging in his cell. Attempts to revive Arenas failed and the inmate was transported to Black River Falls memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead later in the night. Arenas was soon to begin a 2-year prison sentence for the felony charge of delivering cocaine. He was alone in his cell at the time of death and all indications are that he committed suicide; however, his body is being sent to Madison for an autopsy.
