-A Pittsville man was arrested after a standoff with authorities.

According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Department and Pittsville Police Department, they received a call about man that had fired a rifle at a residence on Veedum Street in the City of Pittville in an attempt to shoot the resident there and then himself.

A short time later, the authorities located 26-year-old Randall Bakken in his vehicle on State Highway 54 near Swanson Road in the Town of Port Edwards. When a deputy attempted to stop Bakken, he fled, leading authorities on a brief chase, before getting out of his vehicle holding his rifle to his head.

Bakken made several sudden movements in what appeared to be an attempt to initiate police action, but the method failed and the suspect was able to get back in his vehicle and flee from the area.

Finally, Bakken was located at Moore Road east of County Road D in the Town of Cranmoor. His escape was blocked, he surrendered and was taken into custody. Several charges have been filed against him including recklessly endangering safety, going armed while intoxicated, fleeing an officer and operating while intoxicated.
