Neillsville Boys And Girls With Big Games This Week

The Neillsville boys and girls basketball teams will have big games this week in Eastern Cloverbelt action.

Neillsville at Owen-Withee Girls Basketball - Thursday:

The Warriors, 13-0 overall and 10-0 in the Eastern Cloverbelt, enter the week as the unanimous No. 1 team in Division 3 in The Associated Press state poll, and have not lost a conference game since February 2010 when Owen-Withee pulled off a 39-36 win at home, that’s a 62 game winning streak. Owen-Withee, 11-1 overall and 9-1 in the ECC, is ranked No. 7 in Division 5, with their one loss this season coming at Neillsville in mid-December. Neillsville’s Jenny Lindner and Owen-Withee’s Bailey Karaba have both gone over 1,000 points in their careers. Game time Thursday night is 7:30 pm and you can hear it live on 92.7 FM WPKG.

Marshfield Columbus at Neillsville Boys Basketball – Friday:

Neillsville has won 5 straight in the Eastern Cloverbelt to climb into a tie for the top spot at 9-2 with Owen-Withee. One of their conference losses came at the hands of Marshfield Columbus back on Dec. 10th at Marshfield 57-34. The game was tied at 20 at half but the Dons outscored the Warriors 37-14 in the second half to get the win. Neillsville is 10-4 overall, coming off a ten point loss to Blair-Taylor last Saturday. Marshfield Columbus comes in to Friday’s contest with a 10-3 overall record on the season and 8-2 in the conference. They’ve lost to Colby and Owen-Withee in conference play, both on the road. The game on Friday night will feature two of the top scorers in the conference, Neillsville’s Matt Grottke averaging 18.5 a game and Marshfield Columbus’ Jared Fleischman who averages 13.7 a game. Game time Friday night is 7:30 pm and you can hear it live on 92.7 FM WPKG.
