The Nordic World Championships will be held next year in Cable, WI

The town of 800 people beat out competition from Canada, Italy and Norway.

According to Wisconsin Public Radio News, these cross-country world championship races will begin Jan. 21 next year and will end 12 days later. Cable Chamber of Commerce director James Bolen says this means filling hotel rooms from Ashland to Glidden to Hayward, and some big-league publicity.

He said the competition will be seen in about 170 countries with 350 press from around the world covering the event with about 12 days of competition.

This world championship competition won’t conflict with the American Birkibeiner cross country races, which are held in late February between Telemark and Hayward.
