ANOTHER JACKSON CO. DROWNING

Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

A 37-year-old Alma Center-area man drowned while trying to retrieve his son from Lake Wazee Saturday afternoon.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department says Scott Zobeck and his fiancé were about to leave Lake Wazee when the man went in to the water to retrieve one of his children, who had gone into deep water.

Another man assisted and was able to get the child, but Zobeck was seen slipping beneath the water after he apparently became exhausted by the swim.

Bystanders tried to rescue the man, but were unsuccessful for at least ten minutes.

Lake Wazee is located just outside of Black River Falls. At 355-feet deep, it is the deepest lake in Wisconsin.

This is the second accidental drowning in Jackson County in three weeks.
